INTERNSHIPS

Youth and Family Services, Inc. takes immense pride in training the next generation of Social Workers (BS and MS) and MFTs. Across two decades, hundreds of clinicians --psychologists, social workers and MFTs -- have trained at our Institute.  Also, Registered Addiction Specialists are welcome to intern in our substance abuse treatment programs.

Our Interns can choose to train in a variety of programs ranging from community-based outpatient individual, family and group psychotherapy with children, adolescents and their caregivers to day treatment programs for women in recovery.

In every program, emphasis is placed on understanding the “whole” client (i.e., intrapsychically, interpersonally, and socioculturally).

The work of the clinical staff is informed by principles of psychodynamic, family systems, narrative, and cognitive-behavioral theory, as well as chemical dependence treatment models.  YFS stresses collaboration, both among programs within the agency as well as with other local service providers.

Training is provided on topics such as, DSM-IV assessment, clinical interviewing, legal and ethical issues, multicultural diversity, mandated reporting, assessment and treatment of physical/sexual abuse and neglect, orientation to managed mental health care systems, case management, play and family therapy.

Each year we invite 6-9 interns to join us in providing services to our ethnically diverse, low-income, and high-risk population.
